Citlali Sánchez-Aké

Citlali Sánchez-Aké received the B.Sc. degree in physics and the Ph.D. degree in materials science and engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico, in 2002 and 2007 respectively.

She became a full-time research scientist at the, now, Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology of UNAM; then, Center for Applied Sciences and Technological Development, Mexico, in 2008. Her current research interests include pulsed-laser interaction with materials and applications, laser-induced plasmas, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy and fabrication of nanostructures by laser processing. She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Padova, Italy, the Autonomous Metropolitan University, Mexico and The National Atomic Energy Commission, Argentina.

She received the LOREAL-UNESCO-AMC for Women in Science Fellow in 2008 and the Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz Award in 2018, both national awards to outstanding researchers. In 2019 she chaired the 41st Colloquium Spectroscopicum Internationale in Mexico City. She is a member of the National Research System in Mexico since 2009, and member of the Mexican Society of Physics.

My main subject of study is the interaction of pulsed laser radiation with mater. Particular topics are:

  • Laser-induced plasmas.
  • Pulsed laser deposition.
  • Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS).
  • Nanostructures and thin films.
  • Metal nanoparticles and their optical properties.
