Microwave Photonics

Amado M. Velázquez-Benítez

Amado M. Velázquez-Benítez obtained his bachelor degree from the Engineering School in the National Autonomous University of Mexico, UNAM, in 2010. Later on, he continued pursuing his Masters and PhD degrees at the Electrical Engineering Graduate program also in UNAM, obtaining his degrees in 2012 and 2017, respectively. The subjects of research during his studies covered electronics, photonics and optical waveguide devices. He specialized in the area of optical fiber and photonic devices fabrication. After completing his graduate studies, he incorporated in the Institute for Applied Sciences and Technology (ICAT) as an Associate Researcher starting in August 2017. Along his career he has performed different research internships:
  • (2012) Photonics Systems Group at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
  • (2014-2015) Microstructured Optical Fibers Group in CREOL, The School of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida (UCF), USA.
  • (2015) Optical Components Group at Bell Labs in New Jersey, USA.
  • (2018-2019) Electro-Optics Communications Group (ECO) at the University of Technology in Eindhoven (TU/e), The Netherlands.
  • Microfabrication by direct laser writing lithography.
  • Development of 2D and 3D passive integrated photonic systems in glass and polymer materials.
  • Optical fiber and waveguide devices for sensors and telecommunications.
  • Responsible (PAPIIT-UNAM): Optical interconnection of integrated photonics devices.
  • Participant (PAPIIT-UNAM): Study of thermo-electrokinetic interactions in electrostatic atomization processes.
